End of September update

Hello parents,
It has been another busy week in 4 Isaac. Here is a quick update...

Math - We have continued our work on addition strategies.  I have attached a document from our divisional website which outlines many addition strategies on the right called "addition strategies".  Students in grade 4 work with numbers to 10 000.
We work through a variety of addition strategies, including the standard algorithm.  For this strategy, students place the numbers on top of one another and then add one number position at a time.  When working through questions with your children, encourage them to tell you which position they should start with (en français c'est les unites, ensuite les dizaines, les centaines et les unités de mille).

***Please help remind your child to return their weekly math bag each Tuesday. ***

Sciences Humaines - Students will be taking a Canadian Geography quiz next Friday.  They will be coming home today with a bag of capital cities and provinces that they should be practicing.  The quiz will have them label each province and capital city.  There are also a few games on the link to the right of this post entitled "Social study websites".

***I have asked students to bring in any pictures that they have of trips they have taken around the country.  These can be emailed in to me (sisaac@pembinatrails.ca) or they can bring in hard copies that I will photocopy.  We will be using these pictures to decorate our blank map of Canada.***

Francais - Students have started working in French reading groups.  These lessons give them to an opportunity to work in small groups with their grade 4 peers and a chance to read aloud in French.

English - Many have finished their first novel of grade 4.  We have started on reading responses where students will be comparing, analyzing, reflecting and connecting.

Grade 4 Choir and Orff have officially started.  Please have a quick conversation with your child to find out if this interests them and if they have signed up yet.
